This website is part of a final project in an entrepreneurship class the author is enrolled in at the University of Oregon and doesn't have a product to sell yet.

 

HOWEVER, the author believes this business idea has merit, and plans on pursuing this dream of being an entrepreneur "doing better than doing no harm".

Each year millions of tons CO2 is released in the atmosphere. A substantial amount comes from burning wood biomass. Why not take this biomass and convert it into something that benefits the environment?

Biochar is the product of wood biomass and pyrolysis. The wood biomass is burnt at high temperatures with little available oxygen resulting in pyrolysis leaving only the carbon.

 

Biochar production by itself contributes to the environment by sequestering carbon. It provides an excellent growth media for all forms of agriculture because of its ability to store nutrients. It also has filtering properties that could aid in the prevention of water contamination from toxic runoff.

I view the production of biochar as a win-win for the environment and humanity, and I look forward to the process of making this business idea a reality.
